That wraps up this week's introduction to the NWL WEEKLY
Newsletter, except for our history lesson. On May 9, 1930, for the first time ever, a
starting gate was used to start a Triple Crown race. The gate was rolled into place at the
Preakness at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD. Gallant Fox, the winner, had no problem
with the new contraption. Prior to that time, this horse race began from a standing start
at the start/finish line with the drop of a flag. The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing
consists of three races for three-year-old thoroughbred horses. Winning all three of these
thoroughbred horse races is considered the greatest accomplishment of a thoroughbred
racehorse. In recent years, the Triple Crown has become a very rare achievement, with most
horses specializing in a limited range of distances. In the United States, the Triple
Crown consists of the Kentucky Derby, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky; the
Preakness Stakes, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland; and the Belmont Stakes,
at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The Triple Crown starts with the Kentucky Derby on
the first Saturday of May. The Preakness follows two weeks later. The Belmont Stakes is
five weeks after the Kentucky Derby in early June. In the U.S., the term "Triple
Crown" is the usual reference for these three horse races unless another sport is
specified. In 1930, Gallant Fox won all three important races, and sportswriter Charles
Hatton brought the phrase "Triple Crown" into the American lexicon. In the
more-than-125-year history of the U.S. events, only 11 horses have ever won the U.S.
Triple Crown; none since 1978: 1919 Sir Barton, 1930 Gallant Fox, 1935 Omaha, 1937 War
Admiral, 1941 Whirlaway, 1943 Count Fleet, 1946 Assault, 1948 Citation, 1973 Secretariat,
1977 Seattle Slew and 1978 Affirmed. As of 2008, the current drought of 30 years since
Affirmed won in 1978, is the longest drought between Triple Crown winning horses. Since
1978, ten horses have won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Thank you for
being a fan of professional wrestling and the NWL/HoPWF!

The NWL/HoPWF's "Open Door" policy is offered to any
worker in the business. Whether you're a trained professional wrestler, manager, referee,
valet or trainee enrolled at an actual training center, the "Open Door" policy
can help you chase your dreams. If you're looking to gain that much needed experience and
exposure, the HoPWF weekly events are perfect for accomplishing that goal. Over the last
three years, many workers have taken advantage of the "Open Door" policy and
benefited from the decision. Not only do you get to brush up and improve your skills, but
you also get a foot in the door to many other bookings on NWL shows and other league's
events. You won't put any money in your pockets at the HoPWF events, but what knowledge
and experience you pick up, money cannot buy! Opportunities like this don't come around
often! There is only one condition with participating in any HoPWF event, and that is
every wrestler must wear a pair of actual professional wrestling boots.
No sneakers or treaded sole work boots are permitted on the HoP ring canvas. I guarantee a
great time for anyone who joins in the action, and if you're interested, simply contact me
at JRamboNWL@aol.com.
Opportunities like this don't come around often!

The HoPWF Heavyweight Title, HoPWF Cruiserweight Title
and HoPWF Tag Team Title will be defended at the 5-10-08 HoPWF
Chambersburg, PA, event.

Each week I rate every wrestler in each match and select the WRESTLER OF THE WEEK. There
are 5 categories, with points handed out on a scale of 0 to 5 (Best possible score being
25 pts). The wrestler who gets the highest combined score is the "wrestler of the
week." The 5 grading categories are as follows:
1. Attitude- Wrestlers will be graded on their overall attitude and
respect for the business.
2. Skill- I will watch for proper technique, creativity, and safety.
3. Showmanship- Wrestlers will be graded on how well they interact with
the fans. Good showmanship will get the fans into a match and get them making noise.
4. Sportsmanship- Wrestlers will be graded on how well they treat the
other workers, both in and out of the ring. Respect is a key factor.
5. Match Execution- Wrestlers will be graded on how well they carry out
their roles as "heel" or "face." Match psychology is also an important
factor. This is not how well the wrestlers follow a script.
This week's "wrestler of the
week" winner is HoPWF Cruiserweight Champion Mr. V.I.P.
Viper for his performance at the 5-3-08 HoPWF Martinsburg, WV, Event at the 157th
National Guard Armory in Martinsburg, WV. Viper's scores are as follows:
