LOTR History

Professional wrestling's largest annual tournament honoring Neil Superior

In 2002, I created a 40 man professional wrestling tournament that took the local independent pro wrestling circuit to another level. The event started off simply as the NWL HOUSE of PAIN Lord Of The Rings Event in Newville, PA. It was such a huge success and rapidly grew into one of the most anticipated annual wrestling events on the indy level. The 5th LOTR was then renamed the NWL HOUSE of PAIN Lord Of The Rings / Neil Superior Memorial Cup, in honor of my very good friend Neil Superior who tragically passed away in 1996. In 1997, I chose to dedicate my career and work to making Neil's name, his training school and his and his father's (Dick Caricofe) NWL league as respectable as possible. Because of the popularity and success of the tournament, In 2006, I decided the best way to honor and remember Neil "The Power" Superior each year was to name one of the hottest annual events after him. That is how the show became known worldwide as the NWL HOUSE of PAIN "Lord Of The Rings / Neil Superior Memorial Cup" Event. In 2013, Neil's father and NWL president Dick Caricofe joined the event team to work with me at bringing the fans the NWL HOUSE of PAIN show of shows!

The way the tournament works is very fun and exciting for the workers and the fans alike. Two 18 ft rings are set side by side, 4 ft apart from each other. 40 wrestlers make up the tournament roster that consists of 23 matches total. The 40 wrestlers are split into 10 "match sets." A match set begins with 2 wrestlers in ring 1 and ring 2. The bell rings starting both matches. As soon as there is a winner in one of the rings, that winner jumps over into the other ring making that match a triple threat until there is 1 winner for that match set. Sometimes the matches in both rings will end close to the same time. If that occurs, the remaining 2 winners battle it out to see who will be that match set winner. Both rings can be used through the entire tournament. Wrestlers can exit their ring and go attack a stronger opponent in the opposite ring to better his chances at victory. The possibilities are endless. There are 10 match sets total in this preliminary round.

In the semi-final round, the match set winners from match sets 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 face off in a 5 man battle royal in ring 1. The match set winners from match sets 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 face off in a 5 man battle royal in ring 2.

In the championship round, the 2 battle royal winners square off in a hardcore style 2 ring contest where the winner walks away with the 6'-4" trophy honoring Neil Superior.

Past winners are; Jake "The Machine" Davis, Jason Static, Leslie Leatherman, Gutterboy, Headshrinker Samu, Blackhawk, Brandon Scott, Gustin Uberstud and Bagherra (from the UK). In order to get a shot at the championship trophy, a wrestler has to possess top notch skill and technique just like all the previous NWL/HoP LOTR/NSMC champions. If you never had to opportunity to witness this event, you're honestly missing one of the most exciting live pro wrestling events you'll ever see. This year's event promises to be filled with all sorts of exciting surprises, along with a very special "10th Edition" championship trophy that will go to some very talented professional wrestling star. Hope to see you at the NWL HOUSE of PAIN "Lord Of The Rings / Neil Superior Memorial Cup" Event 10 on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Wherehouse in Martinsburg, WV.
